You Just Can't Afford It !

Some days ago when I was thinking of what my next post was going to be about, lying in my bed, I reached for my journal of supposed post for this blog to begin writing. There I was, next thing I know it was 1,2,3, & half hours with some seconds gone, and what was I  even doing? I was with my phone in my hands (you know now! all them things we do with our phones). At that realisation, I was already out of the writing mood, I just slept off.

You are probably wondering why I told that story, (who cares! right?).
The thing is that  I have a target to put up a new post every 5 to 7 days, that been said, the day I mentioned that I slept off was on Saturday, which means counting from my previous post (20th March) my latest date is today (27th March). okay, let us say you had prior knowledge of my said target to deliver, and you had waited 5th, 6th, 7th & even till the 8th day and saw nothing (hm mm...). Trust me, you would have created an impression of me in your minds. This is you thinking out loud; (abeg leave that blogger, she is just not serious!) or something that sounds like this (no mind am, she think say to blog dey easy...) that has unconsciously given me an image of an irresolute or a wishy - washy kind of person. One could say, all this would have been told differently, if only i had just reached for my journal of supposed post and began writing immediately.

Don't get it confused, my post today is not about the obvious good(s) / bad(s) the social media has blessed us with, neither is it about the extent to which the Internet has occupied our subconscious spaces, (after all,you wont be able to read this without a data plan of some sort). Rather it is about you drawing the line for yourself. My phone story was just an example of a small picture and whether you like or believe or not, there is a big picture. Take my phone story as a template for your life so far and fix your own events in the areas that fit. Now that is the big picture! what you see, you cant afford it! You just cant afford to be distracted from your life goals, you cant afford to be off track.

 In very plain words, distraction is anything that takes your attention away from what you are supposed to be doing. It is the lack of ability to pay close attention. One of the fastest killers of dreams and aspirations is distraction, it starts from the smallest of tasks we have given ourselves, and guess what, after we have been distracted, we don't go back to look at what we would have achieved if we hadn't been distracted. It steals the place of our purpose and just imagine when there is no purpose, the dreamer is either delayed till he / she recuperate, worse case scenario dies out of frustration.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE; whenever we are distracted from whatever we set as high priority, we are 10 steps backwards from our supposed success height.

Much words written already, take up a calculator let's solve the basic mathematics.

QUESTION 1
Given that 5 years is your short term goal period and 25 years your long term goal period, with your current age being constant. Solve to find out how many steps backward from your supposed success height, if you get distracted 4 times a week.

SOLUTION FOR 5 YEARS;
Amount of distractions in a week                     =        4 times
Amount of steps backwards per distraction   =      10 steps
                             4 × 10                  =      40 steps backwards in a week
                           40 ×   4 (weeks)   =    160 steps backwards in a month
                         160 × 12 (months)= 1,920 steps backwards in 1year
                       1920 ×   5 (years)    = 9,600 steps backwards in 5 years

SOLUTION FOR 25 YEARS;
Therefore if 9,600 steps is in 5 years,
Then              9600 × 25 (years)    = 240,000 steps backwards.

Wow!!! that's a lot of figures right? well, the figures says it all.

QUESTION 2
(a) What is / are your target?
(b) What are those things represented as a phone (distractions) in your live as mentioned in our small picture?

Until you have the answers to these questions, your distractions will always win.

Good post. Many times we don't even recognize our distractions...so when we realize we're not getting things done or just falling behind, we need to pay more attention to us and review how we spend every second of the day. This way we can catch the little distractions that didn't cross our minds as distractions.

this is a key factor that has held most giants from rising, the thing is that often times we don't even realize we are being distracted until time is far gone.it requires a conscious effort.
i totally agree with you Obinna, first things first, we should just be aware.then prepare to tackle it. Thank you so much.
